Zachary Markovits is the Director of City Progress for What Works Cities, the nation’s most comprehensive philanthropic initiative helping local leaders identify and invest in what works. There Zach leads the initiative's work helping cities across the United States use data and facts effectively to tackle their most pressing challenges and drive progress for the nation. He previously worked at The Pew Charitable Trusts where he where led Pew’s elections performance portfolio–working with states, counties, and municipalities to use data to drive better decision-making and policy—as well as the Voting Information Project–an open government project partnering Google, the states, and municipalities across the U.S. to ensure that all Americans have the ability to find official voting information wherever they look. Previously, Zach worked out of the University of California’s Survey Research Center as well as served as a community organizer in the south side of Providence, Rhode Island. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
