Jim Cheng has over 25 years experience as a technology entrepreneur, angel/private capital investor, business leader and a senior state government executive.

Previously, Jim served as the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia (1/2010-1/2014). As a senior member of the Governor’s cabinet, his portfolio included 13 state agencies with a focus on business, economic development and entrepreneurship. Before serving in State Government, Jim was a tech entrepreneur in the government IT contracting industry, building his company to close to 600 people before successfully exiting in 2005.

Jim is a Cofounder of CAV-Angels, an Angel investment club for UVA Alumni, a member of several Angel Investment and early stage PE firms/groups; and is Of Counsel to the firm of Lee & Hayes PLLC.
