Ravi Respeto

United Way – Thomas Jefferson Area
President and CEO
Ravi is currently the President and CEO for United Way – Thomas Jefferson Area. She joined
UWTJA in July of 2018 and brings over 12 years of experience in nonprofits and a long history
of working on behalf of her community and its families around education, health, and
environmental sustainability.

Since taking the reins at UWTJA last summer, Ravi has focused on reorganizing the
governance of the organization to encompass focused efforts on diversity, term structure, and a
rebalancing of fiduciary responsibilities for the 50 member Board. She has built out the
infrastructure for a private philanthropy program, initating a public awarness campaign and
starting work on a collective impact model for strategic community grantmaking around
systems-level change. She has also been very active in the community, building out the
Community Table grass roots movement focused on Conversations for Change, engaging with
CEOs, public leaders, community and agency partners, and serving on several committees and
special projects including serving as President-Elect of the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club.
Before joining UWTJA, Ravi was the Director of Development and Marketing with AHIP-Home
Repair nonprofit. During her tenure, she grew their fundraising program from $50,000 to a $1.1
million per year revenue stream. In June of 2015, she joined the Piedmont Family YMCA as the
Development and Marketing consultant to complete a $19 million Capital Campaign to build a
77,000 square foot facility in McIntire Park. Ravi’s career in nonprofit leadership started as the
Campaign Manager for the Charlottesville Waldorf School with a $3 million campaign to build an
environmentally sustainable school.

Ravi has consistently been very engaged in her community and has demonstrated strong
leadership through service and board membership. Ravi has served on the Board of the Blue
Ridge Mountains Rotary Club since 2013 and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Miller
School of Albemarle. Additional Board work has included serving on the Salvation Army Board
chairing the strategic planning committee and the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association as the
chair of the marketing committee.

Ravi started her career at Whole Foods Market working across the Mid-Atlantic Region
managing the Triangle North Carolina and Philadelphia sub-regions with multi-store marketing
campaigns and strategic community funding programs that supported healthy living and social
community investment.

Ravi holds a degree in Communications with a focus on Public Relations as a member of the
Golden Key National Honor Society from George Mason University.
