Pachamama Peruvian Food Truck
Julio Quispe’s passion for good food has roots both in his home country of Peru and in the soil of Central Virginia. Born in Lima, Julio immigrated with his family to Long Island, NY at age seven and began to appreciate the incredible variety of food the city had to offer. After finishing college in The Bronx he moved to Northern California and got to know the production side of the food system, working and learning on a small biodynamic farm. Julio made his way back to the East Coast three years ago, landing in Charlottesville where he began to combine his culinary and agricultural pursuits. He started out selling traditional Peruvian empanadas at farmers markets alongside the organic meat and produce he was raising. In 2018 he opened his food truck business, Pachamama Peru, showcasing the flavors of Peru and local ingredients. Pachamama - a Quechua word for Mother Earth - speaks to Julio’s reverence for the natural world and the interrelatedness of all living things. For Julio, cooking is poetry that transcends language barriers and national borders, creating connections and feeding communities. You can find him in his eye-catching aqua blue food truck serving up empanadas, lomo saltado, ceviche and other traditional Peruvian dishes, some with a local twist.
