Harold Folley

Legal Aid Justice Center
Community Organzier
Charlottesville, Virginia
Harold Folley is an ambitious, hardworking individual that has committed himself fully to helping others He strives to make changes throughout the communities to make them better for the inner-city youth. Harold coordinated the Westhaven Afterschool Program in the Westhaven community for 8 years. The afterschool program created a safe learning environment for the children of the Westhaven community.

Harold has also dedicated 4 years at PHAR, which stands for Public Housing Association of Residence, as a community organizer. During those four years he helped build leadership in Charlottesville public housing.

Harold was currently an organizer with Virginia Organizing for 11 yeers. He organizes federal issues such as Social Security and state issues such as Restoration of Civil Rights and important local issues such as Ban the Box. He also tries to get the people to become more aware of what’s going on in the world and more importantly with their surroundings. Harold believes that people should put themselves in more uncomfortable positions in order to be more comfortable with whatever life has to offer. He believes that everyone is a leader; they just must believe in themselves that they can lead.
Harold is currently the working as the organizer with the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Program (CRRJ program) since January 2018 the program is part of Legal Aid Justice Center. As the newly organizer for LAJC, he hit the ground running. There was some organizing happening before he started in January 2018. One of his first tasks was to get -up and running the Police Civilian Review Board (PCRB). To be effective, he organized and strategized a coalition of Racial Justice groups, non-profits organization and individuals who have been fighting on the front line for Racial Justice here in Charlottesville to a plan to move things forward. I say to folks organize, organize and organize! The community shouldn’t stop organizing around transparency within the Charlottesville Police Department and Charlottesville City Council. We want them to do the right thing when it comes to people of color and low-come communities here in Charlottesville

Harold and his wife Clarissa 7 years ago, bought a house and made a big move out of Public Housing. It hasn’t been easy for Harold but he believed with faith, love, patience and being humble the dreams you have can come true.
