A.D. Carson is an award-winning performance artist and educator who writes rap songs, poems, stories, and essays. He was born in Decatur, Illinois and received a Ph.D. in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design at Clemson University. Dr. Carson is a 2016 recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Excellence in Service at Clemson, and his digital archive, “Owning My Masters: The Rhetorics of Rhymes & Revolutions,” which features a 34 track rap album, was recognized by the Clemson University Graduate Student Government as the 2017 Outstanding Dissertation. His most recent musical work is an EP titled Sleepwalking 2.

Carson is currently assistant professor of Hip-Hop at the University of Virginia.
