A Black Feminist Archaeology of Adornment
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Ayana will examine sartorial practices of self-making among African American tenant, sharecropping and landowning farmers post-emancipation. Sartorial practices are defined as social-cultural practices, shaped by many intersecting operations of power and oppression including racism, sexism, and classism, that involve modifications of the corporal form -- scarification, body piercings, and hair alteration -- and three-dimensional adornments such as clothing, hair combs, and jewelry.

McGuffey Open House & Picnic: Community Wish Flags
Limited Capacity seats available

EXPERIENCE CREATIVITY IN ACTION! Ever wonder how a work of art is made? We often see the finished product but not the behind-the-scenes process. Artists will be working in their studios, ready to answer your questions at the Open House. In this digital media age, engaging the creative process becomes even more meaningful. This all-ages event offers visitors the chance to connect with McGuffey artists one-on-one, and see first-hand what’s behind an encaustic painting, a clay sculpture, or a stained glass window.

Come and picnic on the lawn while listening to some family friendly local music. From 10 to noon we will be offering up a fun community wide art project where we will be making ‘Community Wish Flags’, come decorate a flag and share a wish for our community. We will fly them on the lawn for the weekend for everyone to see.

You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Free Festival Pass.
